I received this 3D pen kit and was hoping to create some cool stuff! The directions for the unit were simple as the pen is very use to setup and use. You simply plug it in, let it warm up for a few and then insert the 30g ABS filament (ABS plastic) strings. It took a bit to get it to go inside but once you learn to press the forward button it will start coming out the Tip. It does a slight smell of plastic but you see that is part of using the plastic stings ( filament) that goes inside the pen to work.

It takes some self taught learning curve as the directions really gave no tips how to start using the pen as a novice. They did provide 5 pieces of templates. This paper has a glossy sheen that will allow you pick up the design without it having to stick to it. We learned using a piece of regular paper. Over all it was pretty quick to setup and start.

The part was learning how to use the pen correctly to get to a design going and learning to construct something full of art to enjoy.

Warning: The tip gets very hot and cannot be touched or you will burn yourself and the filament coming out is hot as well.. but cools down and hardens in 5 secs. Just be aware of how hot it can get and not burn your fingers with it.

Overall being it was a new art toy I have never used before I was excited at how neat it would be to play with something new I had not experienced. I enjoyed having the pen and will continue to read more on how create some interesting pieces from it. But there is going to be a learning curve to use it .

The filament will run out pretty fast at first and once you do get the hang of using it you can learn to as much as you need.

I found the refills for around 2.00-3.00 bucks for  32 Feet of  30g of ABD filament . There are a variety of colors to choose from. Look around and you will find refills are not as expensive as I would have thought.

For the price of the unit I would say if it something you want to try or get for a holiday gift this might be the one to buy. Simple, easy and works well on the first use !
